Freddy's and the Lynches River County Park

Image
Freddy's Frozen Custard and Steakburgers     I started this blog with the intention of us not going to fast food chains, but today I found there will be exceptions. In cases where I haven't heard of the chain before, we might stop, like today's entry Freddy's. This was completely new to Otis and I and after looking them up on google maps, it is a nationwide chain with a lot of locations. This was meant to be a quick stop on our way to Lynches River County Park and everything worked out well. Went through the drive thru, ordered a double burger meal and for a double burger, fries and a Pepsi it came to around $12, which I think is around the standard for a fast food meal these days. We then parked and ate at the outdoor tables in the front. The burger was quality and topped just how I like it with two long pickle slices, onion, mustard and cheese. The fries were different than any other fast food place I have been to. They are cut really thin, to me were reminiscent of...

40 Acre Rock Heritage Preserve and the Kershaw House of Pizza

40 Acre Rock Heritage Preserve     40 Acre Rock Heritage Preserve is a place I had heard of prior, but I did not look up much information on before going. Just made sure there was parking, dogs were allowed and that there were trails. Otis never does any prior research. I chose to park at the upper parking lot, which is at the very end of Conservancy Rd. Other than the sign above, I didn't see any informational kiosks that are normally at the trailheads on SC's Heritage Preserves. There were a lot of cars in the parking lot, so maybe there was one hidden behind them, but none right at the trailhead. Starting down the trail, the walk was pretty easy. From the parking lot the old road continues on all the way down to the exposed rock. It is about 0.6 miles from the upper lot to the rock. Otis did a lot of sniffing along this path and it looks to be very well traveled.     A larger group with a number of children was coming out of the main entrance to the rock face...

A&A Seafood Shack and a walk at Indian Bluff Recreation Park

A&A Seafood Shack     When we left the house we had a completely different plan for today. Crossing Lake Marion on 95 south, I noticed some birds on the lake on the other side of the 301 bridge, which is now just for walking. I decided to take Otis for a quick walk there and get a closer look. After turning onto old 301 in Santee, I noticed something new, at least to me. A&A Seafood Shack. I decided going there would be a little easier than where we originally intended to and after the walk on the bridge we stopped in. The birds on the lake ended up being Double-crested Cormorants, a seafood eating bird, that may have brought good luck to our stop.      With having to leave Otis in the car I hoped to make a speedy order and get back to him. When I got up to the ordering counter I wasn't sure what to get and asked what was recommended. With pride the woman taking orders said something along the lines of "everything on my menu is great, but we do have a sh...
